Mortal Instruments – The Movie
November 3rd, 2009 by Tasha

Variety reports that The Mortal Instruments trilogy by Cassandra Clare will be made into a film.  For me, the most interesting piece of it is that the three novels City of Bones, City of Ashes and City of Glass are going to be merged into a single script.

Now, I have copies of this series on my shelf but have yet to read them.  For those of you who have, do you think this merging of the first three hefty novels will work?

…WOW, it’s just YA movie week!

I do think that these three can be put into one movie. There’s a lot of fight/run scenes, for one thing, in each book; those can be edited. I’ve not read the second book, but 1/3 at least would work. The story arc could be edited tightly enough to allow for a lot of CGI and action, and I think people would like it. I’d probably even see it, which is saying something (not sure what!)…

I think it will be great as a movie. The three books only cover a short span of time. I look forward to seeing them on the big screen.

That is really interesting, and a very bold undertaking if I do say so myself. I haven’t read the books so I can’t weigh in on whether or not this is feasible. They certainly seem to think so.

As a fan of the books I’m not sure what to say.
Do I think the story can be made into a great movie? Yes.
Will we lose a lot of the story cramming it all into one two hour experience?

I think so. But will wait and see.

I think it would be an awesome movie if its the Mortal Instruments! But, I think if they merge all three books, would they only make one movie? But then of course, when the fourth book comes out they will do the fourth book as a movie? Its from Simons version, so I think that would make sense, but I would really rather they make three (four, counting the fourth book) movies instead of just one big one.

The trilogy is a great Story!!!!!!!…But I don’t know if it will work to put them all into one movie… I kinda REALLY hope they don’t! but as long as they make a
movie(s) out of them…..i’ll take what I can get!!!!!

Very good text. I’ve found your blog via Google and I’m really happy about the information you provide in your posts. Btw your sites layout is really broken on the Kmelon browser. Would be great if you could fix that. Anyhow keep up the great work!

I am a big fan of this series and I have read all three books. I really think they should not merge all three books together for one movie. I think each book has enough to be made into a movie indivivually. I feel if they were to make all three books into one movie it will feel rushed and the audience will not be able to have the same experience as with the novels. Each book should be turned into it’s own movie and become a movie series like Harry Potter, Twilight, and Percy Jackson. This series is so different and unique from others that the audience will be blown away if a movie series come out from these novels. And the last novel City of Glass has so much information and events being told…how are they going to fit that into a movie with two other great novels with just as much plot? Look at what happened to the Unfornate Events…they tried merging a few books together for a movie, did it work? did a next movie come out for the other novels? NO! This will not work if they merge all movies together. The audience needs time to connect with each character and it’s plot, but in order for that to happen they need to make indiviual movies. Just look at Harry Potter…do you think that the audience would have liked this movie series just as much as if the first threee novels were cpmbined in a film? You wouldn’t have enough time to connect and understand the characters as much if the novels were made into one film. If they make a movie out of the first book City of Bones and it turns out to be a success, there will be so much anticipation for the next movie which is City of Ashes. But if they combine all three novels into one movie, I dont think it will be a success. And what about the Infernal Devices? What are they going to do about that? If they merge all three novels it will screw things up! SO I’M JUST SAYING…THEY SHOULDN’T MERGE ALL THREE NOVELS INTO ONE FILM!!!!!
