The higher power of Lucky by Susan Patron is a wonderful book about a young girl who is searching for stability in her life. She eavedrops on adults speaking in various 10-step programs hoping to learn about life and higher powers. She overhears things being said by adults who would never use that language in front of a child.
It is a book about a child trying to grow up in spite of the problems in her life. The ten year old in this book spoke to the ten year old in me and I loved that about this book. I laughed and cried while reading. I wish I had known a child like Lucky. She would have been a good friend I am sure.
Lucky sounds like a normal ten year old which I like about this book.
