Hi Tasha
I think it depends on which came first for you. I was brought up on the books and find the film(s) irritating when they merge two or three story-lines into one. Don't try the mainstream books but do read Tales of Avonlea and Fruther Tales of Avonlea which are only dependent on the geography rather the personality of Anne and you may find a different side of L M Montgomery.

Tasha,
I think it depends on when you discovered the books and how many you've read. For me, they were something I fell in love with as a child. And my favorite is the third book... so to does take a little while to get there.
Give "The Blue Castle" a try. It's also by L.M. Montgomery, but it's a stand alone book. I first read it as an adult, and it's one of my favorites (and I think I've read every L.M. Montgomery book published).

I'm with you. The books never caught me; the films did. Sigh.

I have to agree with you. The books never did much for me. I loved the movies to pieces, but no matter now hard I tried, I just couldn't get into those books they way other people seemed to!
